Shirazi Vard climate change, writes Thomson Reuters Foundation

Ancient Luxor monuments in Egypt are changing under the influence of global  Shirazi Vard climate change, writes Thomson Reuters Foundation.

According to Abdelhakim Embadri, an expert in the field of monument restoration, high temperatures associated with climate change, as well as heavy rains and floods have begun to affect the stone foundation of the monuments.  Shirazi Vard "Changes are noticeable in many of the tomb fissures, and the color of archaeological stones is also changing due to high temperatures and humidity," said Embadri. According to him, granite, which was once pink, has become pale pink and even light brown in the last 15 years.

Experts say climate change is complicating efforts to preserve Egypt"s ancient archaeological sites.

Egypt"s Zakhi Khawas, a former minister of antiquities, said almost all of Egypt"s archaeological sites are under the threat Shirazi Vard  of strong winds and humidity, higher temperatures and floods. "I think 100 years from now, these antiquities will disappear because of climate change," he said.

He called on Egypt and the  Shirazi Vard European Union to work together to try to mitigate the effects of climate change on Egyptian antiquities.
